WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED IS THAT ATHLETIC TRAINERS IN AIKEN COUNTY SHOULD BE EMPLOYED DIRECTLY BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. HAVING A HEAD OR LEAD ATHLETIC TRAINER WILL ENSURE RETENTION, IMPROVED COMMUNICATION AND OVERSIGHT ON THE CARE DELIVERED TO OUR STUDENT ATHLETES. I HAVE CANDIDATES IN MIND FOR THE HEAD TRAINER POSITION AND FIVE TRAINERS RIGHT NOW THAT ARE WILLING TO COME TO AIKEN COUNTY TO BE UNDER THIS PERSON'S LEADERSHIP. THERE ARE ALSO TWO OTHER TRAINERS THAT THAT I HAVE PERSONALLY FOUND TO PLACE IN THOSE TWO OTHER SCHOOLS. THAT IS A LEAD HEAD TRAINER WITH 50% EFFORT DEDICATED TO ADMINISTRATION AND 50% EFFORT DEDICATED TO CLINICAL COVERAGE, AS WELL AS SEVEN FULL TIME ATHLETIC TRAINERS IN EACH OF OUR SCHOOL POSITIONS. I UNDERSTAND THERE ARE PROCESSES IN PLACE TO OPEN UP POSITIONS FOR APPLICANTS TO APPLY AND BE INTERVIEWED. THESE ARE IMPORTANT STEPS FROM OUR POLICIES AND PROCEDURES STANDPOINTS AND IN YOUR COMMUNITY UNDERSTANDS THAT. SO EACH SPORT HAS A DIFFERENT NEED, AND THOSE ATHLETIC TRAINERS CAN HELP WITH EACH OF THOSE NEEDS. I THINK ABOUT A FEMALE SOCCER PLAYER. FEMALE SOCCER PLAYERS TEND TO TEAR THEIR ACLS MORE. ATHLETIC TRAINERS ARE OUT THERE HELPING SO THAT THOSE FEMALE SOCCER PLAYERS HOPEFULLY DO NOT TEAR THEIR ACL BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN TRAINED IN THE APPROPRIATE WAY. I WAS INFORMED THE REASON THE TRESPASS WARNING WAS DUE TO SOMEONE ACCUSING ME OF BEING PRESENT AT PRACTICE, AFTER I HAD ALREADY BEEN EXCUSED FROM MY VOLUNTEER SERVICES. I HAVE EVIDENCE SHOWING I WAS NOT AT THE SCHOOL ANY OF LAST WEEK, EXCEPT FOR THE GAME ON THURSDAY, WHICH I REMAINED IN THE STANDS. BASED ON MY FIRST SEMESTER, THE FALL SEMESTER, I HAD ONE CREDIT WHERE I NEEDED TO. SO WE STARTED WITH MIDLAND VALLEY TO SEE WHAT EXACTLY THE ISSUE WAS NOT BROUGHT UP UNTIL OUR FIRST SCRIMMAGE. WE WERE INFORMED THAT IN THE TWO WEEKS PRIOR, OUR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR KNEW I WAS INELIGIBLE. HE WAS WORKING ON IT, SENDING OUT AN APPEAL AND FIGHTING ON MY BEHALF. WE WERE TOLD BY MY PRINCIPAL, SHELDON HIGGINBOTHAM, AND MY ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, JUSTIN MEDLOCK, THAT THERE WAS A RULE CHANGE WITH OUR NEW BLOCK SCHEDULE BEING IN PLACE. WE ASKED WHY OUR OWN ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AND GUIDANCE COUNSELORS DIDN'T KNOW OF THIS RULE CHANGE TILL NOW, ALONG WITH THE INFORMATION THAT WAS NOT PUT OUT FOR THE ATHLETES TO SEE SINCE IT WAS NEW, NEWLY CHANGED. AFTER ALL, THESE QUESTIONS REMAINED UNANSWERED. WE WERE DIRECTED BY HIGGINBOTHAM TO THE SOUTH CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE AND THE DISTRICT. WE PULLED INFORMATION ON ELIGIBILITY ELIGIBILITY AS OF FEBRUARY FROM BOTH WEBSITES, BOTH STILL STATING IT WAS BASED ON THE PREVIOUS YEAR PASSING GPA, AND A LIST OF CLASSES IN WHICH I HAD PASSED PREVIOUS TO THIS THIS FALL SEMESTER. AFTER NOT RECEIVING A CALL BACK FROM ANYONE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE OR THE DISTRICT, WE HAD A MEETING AT MIDLAND VALLEY WITH HIGGINBOTHAM AND OUR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, MEDLOCK. AT THIS MEETING, WE WERE INFORMED OF AN APPEAL THAT WAS NEVER DONE. BUT THEY HAVE BOTH MADE CALLS AND I QUOTE THEM. DURING THIS MEETING, HIGGINBOTHAM BROUGHT UP A WORK CREDIT SINCE I WORKED AT TIFFANY PEDIATRICS FOR DR. JOHN TIFFANY. HIGGINBOTHAM OPENLY TOLD US, EMMA. WHEN WE QUESTIONED APPEALS, WE WERE TOLD APPEALS GO THROUGH THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION NOT ONE PERSON STATED THIS BEFORE. AFTER BEING TOLD THIS, WE WORKED HARD IN GETTING IN TOUCH WITH THE STATE BOARD, AND THEY WERE EXTREMELY NICE AND CONFUSED BECAUSE THEY SAY THEY HAVE ZERO RULE CHANGES SINCE 1988. THEY WANTED MEDLOCK, RED AND THE DISTRICT TO REQUEST A WAIVER BASED ON MISINFORMATION IN SECTION C, ONE A IN THE ATHLETIC POLICIES AND PROCEDURES. THE DISTRICT REFUSED TO GET TO GET THE REQUEST TO REQUEST THE WAIVER, EVEN THOUGH THEY FEEL AS IF THERE IS MISINFORMATION. EVEN DR. MURPHY STATES IN THE EMAIL BACK TO US, THERE IS A DELUGE OF MISINFORMATION, AND HE DOESN'T WANT TO ADD TO IT OR INTERVENE. THEY BEGAN TO BLAME ME. THERE WERE SEVERAL PEOPLE THAT REACHED OUT FOR FURTHER COMMUNICATION AND FOR FURTHER CLARIFICATION. AND THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN, WHICH ULTIMATELY LED TO THE SITUATION THAT MR. SOLOMON BROUGHT UP. AND THIS YEAR WE HAVE GONE FROM JUST ATHLETICS, ATHLETIC ATHLETES COMING TO THE SCHOOL TO READ TO OUR STUDENTS AND WELCOMING TO THE SCHOOL. THIS YEAR, THE DECA ORGANIZATION WANTED TO GET INVOLVED AND EXPLAIN WHAT THEY DO AND MAKING COFFEE AND SHARING THAT WITH THE STUDENTS, AS WELL AS READING IN THE CLASSROOM. AND THEN THE BAND MEMBERS HAVE JOINED IN TO COME AND SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. AND THEN WE HAVE SEVERAL CHURCHES IN THE COMMUNITY WHO WANT TO COME AND SUPPORT OUR SCHOOL IN VARIOUS DIFFERENT WAYS. THE CUPS THAT YOU RECEIVED THIS EVENING, THE CANDY IN THERE, IT COMES FROM UNITY OUTREACH, AND THEY'RE A BIG SUPPORTER OF OUR SCHOOL. AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT THEY HAVE DONE THIS PAST WEEK TO CELEBRATE EVERY STUDENT AS WE GET READY FOR THE BREAK, WAS BRING A SMALL BAG OF CANDY FOR THEM. AND THEN WE'RE PROUD OF OUR WATCH DOGS PROGRAM, WHERE WE HAVE FATHERS AND GENTLEMEN COME INTO THE BUILDING THROUGHOUT THE THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS, TO PATROL THE HALLWAYS AND MENTOR STUDENTS. AND THEN WE HAVE PARTNERS WITH UNITED WAY AIKEN THE AIKEN SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT COME AND GET INVOLVED WITH OUR CLASSROOMS. AND THERE'S MANY OTHERS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. IT'S IT'S PRETTY AMAZING TO SEE THE DIFFERENT PEOPLE THAT COME THROUGHOUT. AND IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT US RECEIVING. OUR STUDENTS LOVE TO GIVE BACK. THIS JUST THIS PAST MONTH MONDAY, THE AIKEN COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER CAME TO THE SCHOOL BECAUSE THE STUDENTS DID A DRIVE TO COLLECT ANIMAL DOG FOOD, CAT FOOD, TOYS FOR THE ANIMALS AT THE SHELTER, AND THEN IN [INAUDIBLE] TWO SATURDAYS. I BELIEVE THEY WILL GATHER AT THE SHELTER TO READ TO THE ANIMALS. AGAIN OUR JUNIOR BETA CLUB ORGANIZED A BLOOD DRIVE FOR US TO HAVE IN THE PARKING LOT AT THE SCHOOL FOR THE COMMUNITY TO SHOW UP. AND THEN THIS PAST CHRISTMAS, THEY DECIDED ON THEIR OWN TO CREATE A DRIVE TO BRING TO THE NURSING HOMES FOR THE ELDERLY. AND THEN OUR STAFF DOES THE SAME. WE PARTICIPATED IN AIKEN UNITED WAY'S BE A BUNNY PROGRAM, WHERE THE STAFF CREATED EASTER BASKET EASTER BASKETS TO GIVE TO THE DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS THAT MIGHT BE AT A NURSING HOME OR MIGHT NOT RECEIVE SOMETHING FOR EASTER. AND IT CREATES HELPS CREATE A WONDERFUL CULTURE, NOT ONLY RECEIVING, BUT GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY. AND THAT'S JUST A SNIPPET OF HOW WE GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY. AND THEN OUR PTO PLAYS A VITAL ROLE. THEY ARE BIG IN FUNDRAISING, AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT THEY DO, AS LONG AS IT BENEFITS THE STUDENTS, THEY ARE ALL FOR IT. AND SO THEY PARTICIPATE WITH THE THE SHOOTING STARS PROGRAM. THEY PUT ON EVENTS SUCH AS OUR BIG EVENT, THE VALENTINE COURT. IT'S A BIG FUNDRAISING EVENT, BUT THEY HAVE MOTHER SON EVENTS, DADDY DAUGHTER EVENTS, AND THEN THEY TURN AROUND AND EVERY, EVERY GRADE LEVEL GETS A CERTAIN AMOUNT TO HELP OFFSET THE COST FOR STUDENTS TO GO ON FIELD TRIPS. SO THEY'RE NOT AS HIGH. THEY HAVE REPLACED RECESS EQUIPMENT THROUGHOUT THE YEARS. THEY'VE HELPED MATCH THE DISTRICT WHEN THE DISTRICT REPLACED OUR CAFETERIA TABLES, THEY HELPED MATCH TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY WERE ALL THE SAME DURING THAT TIME. SO THEY'RE THEY'RE REALLY INVOLVED, AN IMPORTANT PART TO GLOVERVILLE. AND THEN STAFF RECOGNITION AND FUN. IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOT ONLY HAVE OUR STUDENTS CELEBRATE, BUT TO RECOGNIZE OUR STAFF FOR THE JOB WELL DONE THAT THEY DO. THEY COME IN AND THEY WORK HARD EVERY DAY. THEY WANT TO SEE OUR STUDENTS GROW AND THEY WORK HARD TO DO THAT. SO WITH THE HELP OF ANOTHER COUPLE OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS JIMMY ROONEY, STATE FARM EVERY MONTH SPONSORS A TEACHER OF THE MONTH AND UNITY OUTREACH [00:40:02] SPONSORS A STAFF OF EACH MONTH. AND THEN THE ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM TRIES TO FIND WAYS TO HELP MOTIVATE THE TEACHERS TO GET THROUGH THE MONTHS, WHETHER IT'S A LUNCH OR BRINGING IN DIFFERENT SNACKS. AND THEN THE TEACHER LEADERS LOVE FOR WHEN WE HAVE HOLIDAYS OR EVENTS TO COME AROUND ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO CAR LINE TO DRESS UP, AS YOU SEE HERE. AND VALENTINE'S DAY SO THE KIDS CAN HAVE A LAUGH AND ENJOY IT GOING, COMING TO SCHOOL AND GOING HOME AND THEN DRESSING UP IN THE INFLATABLES AROUND HALLOWEEN TIME FOR THAT, SO WE'D LOVE TO HAVE FUN AND ENJOY IT. SO THAT IT CREATES, AGAIN, ANOTHER POSITIVE CULTURE. AND WE CAN'T LEAVE OUT ACADEMICS. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE STRIVE ON IS ACADEMIC GROWTH FOR EVERY CHILD. WE LOOK AT WAYS THAT WE CAN REACH CHILDREN AND HOW CAN THEY GROW. AND IT'S JUST NOT SITTING IN THE CLASSROOM. YOU SEE HERE, WE HAD DURING READ ACROSS AMERICA WEEK, STUDENTS WERE READING UNDER THE STARS AS OUR SHOOTING STARS OR THROUGH FIELD TRIPS OR MAKING MATH FUN. AND THEN SCIENCE FUN AS THEY WENT OUTSIDE TO SEE HOW MANY RUBBER BANDS YOU COULD PUT AROUND THE WATERMELON. AND THAT WAS OUR FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS. AND THEN IN THE BOTTOM, USING SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING AND MATH TO HELP DEVELOP, DEVELOP, DEVELOP AND CREATE A ROLLER COASTER. AND THE TEACHERS ARE A BIG PART OF THAT BECAUSE THEY LOOK AT NOT ONLY THE STUDENTS IN THEIR CLASSROOM, BUT THEY KNOW ALMOST EVERY SINGLE KID IN THE SCHOOL AND HOW WELL THEY'RE DOING. WHAT ARE SOME OF THEIR NEEDS AND THINGS THAT ARE MET? HOW CAN WE DO THAT? HOW CAN WE HELP THEM GROW? AND LOOKING AT THIS PAST YEAR'S SCHOOL REPORT CARD, ONE OF THE BIGGEST AREAS THAT WE MADE GAINS IN WAS THE GROWTH OF STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT. AND AS WE SAY, LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY. AND THAT HELPS OUR GROWTH BE BETTER THAN WHEN YOU WALKED IN THE DOOR THIS MORNING. AS YOU LEAVE, GAIN THAT KNOWLEDGE AND THE STUDENTS BUY IN TO THAT. SO THAT WOULD BE IN APRIL AND THEN BETWEEN APRIL AND JUNE, GETTING SOME COMMUNITY INPUT ON ON WHAT THOSE PROJECTS WOULD BE. AND THEN BY JULY AND SINCE THE BOARD TONIGHT HAS APPROVED THE THE SCHEDULE OF MEETINGS, WE WOULD BE LOOKING AT JULY 16TH TO FINALIZE PROJECTS AND TO HAVE A BALLOT RESOLUTION READY TO GO. SO BETWEEN THE MIDDLE OF APRIL AND THE MIDDLE OF JULY WE WOULD DETERMINE THE PROJECTS THROUGH BOARD DISCUSSION AND THROUGH COMMUNITY INPUT, AND THEN FINALIZE THOSE PROJECTS IN A RESOLUTION ON JULY 16TH. AND THEN BETWEEN JULY AND NOVEMBER, IT WILL BE ABOUT SHARING FACTS AND INFORMATION WITH THE PUBLIC IN ANTICIPATION OF THAT NOVEMBER 5TH VOTE. THE NEXT SLIDE I DO WANT TO WANT TO POINT OUT THESE ARE POSSIBLE PROJECTS. THESE ARE THINGS THAT WE DISCUSSED ON NOVEMBER 28TH. DESPITE ALL THE HOUSING DEVELOPMENTS THAT ARE GOING ON IN AIKEN COUNTY. DO WE HAVE ACCESS TO ANY OTHER INFORMATION THAT WOULD HELP US UNDERSTAND WHERE WE MAY SEE SOME GROWTH IN THE NEXT TEN YEARS? SO WE HAD THE STUDY THAT WE DID WELL SIX YEARS AGO AND IT ESSENTIALLY SAID SAID THE SAME THING. IT DID CALL FOR MORE GROWTH IN THE NORTH AUGUSTA AREA THAN THAN THE MOST RECENT ONE DID. I THINK JUST LOOKING AT AT OUR OWN DATA, I MEAN, WE SEE THE GROWTH IN OUR STUDENT POPULATION. WE JUST WENT THROUGH AN EXERCISE IN, IN ALLOCATIONS FOR PERSONNEL AT OUR SCHOOLS, AND WE SEE CONSIDERABLE GROWTH AT SOME OF OUR SCHOOLS IN MIDLAND VALLEY AREA AND IN THE NORTH AUGUSTA AREA. SO I THINK WE'VE GOT BETTER INFORMATION AT AT OUR FINGERTIPS IN REAL TIME. NOW, THAT DOESN'T GIVE US WHAT TRENDS ARE GOING TO BE AND WHAT AND WHAT NATIONAL FORMULAS MAY PREDICT OVER A FIVE AND TEN YEAR PERIOD. BUT WHAT WE SEE RIGHT NOW IS, IS WE DO HAVE GROWTH IN OUR SCHOOLS. AND WE ALSO ANOTHER HUGE PIECE OF, OF DATA IS THE AGE AND CONDITION OF OUR SCHOOLS. WE DO A GOOD JOB OF MAINTAINING OUR SCHOOLS, BUT THEY'RE STILL GETTING A LOT OF AGE ON THEM. AND THAT CERTAINLY THE LIST THAT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT IN THE BOARD ROOM BEFORE ABOUT ESSENTIALLY ASSIGNING A CONDITION TO EACH SCHOOL BY NUMBER. THAT WAS VERY HELPFUL.
