MAYBE A GRANDCHILD OR ANOTHER RELATIVE, BUT AN ACTUAL CHILD.
SO HAVING A YOUR OWN CHILD IN A SCHOOL SYSTEM, THAT CHILD COMES HOME EVERY DAY AND LETS US KNOW EXACTLY WHAT'S GOING ON, WITH WHOM ALL THE CHILDREN KNOW, FACULTY AND STAFF KNOW WHICH CHILDREN ARE PROBLEM CHILDREN.

YOU COULD NOT DO SO FOR THE SPREAD OF GERMS. THAT IS STILL A SAFETY ISSUE CURRENTLY THAT WE ARE UNDER EFFECT TO NOT HAVE AS MUCH CONTACT

AS POSSIBLE WITH OTHER STUDENTS IN THAT CAPACITY.WOULD LIKE TO SAY FOR THE SAID STUDENTS THAT HAVE SOME DISCIPLINARY ISSUES THAT IT WOULD BE A MUCH BETTER OPTION TO HAVE THOSE STUDENTS TO BE SENT UP FOR EXPULSION OR OTHER OPTIONS FOR THE SAFETY OF THOSE THAT ACTUALLY WANT TO LEARN.
THOSE STUDENTS SHOULD NOT BE IN ATTENDANCE AT SCHOOLS.
IF YOU TAKE AWAY THOSE STUDENTS, WHICH IS PROBABLY ABOUT 5%, THE OTHER 95% OF THE STUDENTS WOULD HAVE A BETTER OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN AND COME FORWARD AS BETTER CITIZENS AND IN OUR COMMUNITY TO KEEP THIS ALL GOING.
UM. AND I WAS ASKED BY A BOARD MEMBER I HAD SPOKE WITH PRIOR TO THIS, AND I WAS TOLD, WELL, WE DIDN'T HAVE WATER.
METAL WATER BOTTLES WHEN WE WERE IN SCHOOL.
BUT WE ALSO DID NOT HAVE LAPTOP COMPUTERS THAT ARE IN OUR BOOK BAGS WITH WATER BOTTLES.
A PLASTIC WATER BOTTLE IS MUCH MORE EASY TO HAVE, CONDENSATION TO GET PUNCTURED TO SPILL.
AND NOW WHO'S GOING TO REPLACE YOUR LAPTOPS? WE ALSO.
WE DID HAVE THERMOS CONTAINERS THAT WE COULD TAKE TO SCHOOL FOR OUR SCHOOL LUNCHES, AND OUR CHILD LIKES TO TAKE HER LUNCH TO SCHOOL AND HER THERMOS CONTAINER. NOT EVERY DAY, BUT SOME DAYS.
AND IT DOES HAVE A METAL SPOON THAT'S FOLDED INTO THE LID THAT GOES WITH THAT.
AND YOU MAY SAY, WELL, WE HAVE FREE LUNCH FOR EVERYONE.
ALSO, WHEN I WAS IN SCHOOL, WE HAD STUDENT BUS DRIVERS.
WE HAD TRUCKS, HAD GUN RACKS IN THE BACK OF THEM WITH RIFLES IN THEM.
AND STUDENTS WOULD LEAVE SCHOOL AND DRIVE OFF AND GO HUNTING.
AND I DON'T THINK THAT METAL WATER BOTTLES IS THE ANSWER TO OUR PROBLEM FOR PROHIBITING THEM FROM SCHOOLS AND AND ALSO I'D LIKE TO ADD IT IS IN MY EMAIL I HAVE THREE OF MY BOYS ARE IN MILITARY ACADEMIES AND TWO AT WEST POINT, ONE AT NAVAL ACADEMY.

WE ARE A SMALL NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOL OF ABOUT 350 STUDENTS.
A LOT OF OUR STUDENTS THAT ATTEND THEIR PARENTS ALSO ATTENDED OUR SCHOOL GROWING UP.
WE ARE A TITLE ONE SCHOOL AND WE HAVE AN 83% POVERTY RATE.
OUR DEMOGRAPHICS ARE QUITE UNIQUE.
WE HAVE 25% BLACK OR AFRICAN AMERICAN, 29% WHITE, 35% HISPANIC OR LATINO, AND 11% TWO OR MORE RACES.
AM I SPEAKING TOO CLOSE BECAUSE OF THIS DIVERSITY? I'VE BEEN VERY INTENTIONAL ABOUT PURCHASING BOOKS FOR OUR CLASSROOM LIBRARIES AND FOR OUR MEDIA CENTER THAT REPRESENT THE STUDENTS THAT ATTEND OUR SCHOOL. DIVERSE LITERATURE ENSURES THAT ALL CHILDREN FEEL REPRESENTED IN BOOKS IN RELATION TO THE CHARACTERS AND CULTURES THAT THEY GREW UP WITH.
IT ALSO ALLOWS STUDENTS TO EXPERIENCE CULTURES AND CIRCUMSTANCES THAT ARE DIFFERENT FROM THEIR OWN.
AND WHEN WE INTRODUCE THESE TO OUR TEACHERS AND THE STUDENTS, THE STUDENTS WERE SO EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO CHECK OUT SOME OF THESE BOOKS THAT REPRESENT THEM, BUT WE HAVE A WIDE VARIETY AVAILABLE FOR THEM ALSO.
NEXT, WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT SCHOOL CLIMATE RESEARCH.
RESEARCH SHOWS THAT A POSITIVE SCHOOL CULTURE CORRELATES WITH THE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF STUDENTS.
THE FIRST THING WE DO IS WE HAVE STUDENT CELEBRATIONS.
WE RECOMMEND WE RECOGNIZE STUDENTS OF THE MONTH, STUDENTS OF THE WEEK.
WE HAVE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR BECAUSE WE ARE THE CUBS.
WE HAVE CUB CASH TICKETS THAT WE GIVE TO STUDENTS THAT ARE SHOWING GOOD BEHAVIOR.
AND THOSE TICKETS GET PUT IN A DRAWING AT THE END OF THE WEEK AND THEY GET TO GO TO THE POSSUM NOOK.
THE POSSUM NOOK IS SOMEWHERE WHERE THEY GET TO PICK PRIZES.
AND SO WE HAVE A WIDE VARIETY OF PRIZES THAT THEY CAN PICK.
THE KIDS LOVE THIS AND WE ALSO DO IT ON THE ACADEMIC SIDE AS WELL.
FOR EXAMPLE, IF THEY MEET THEIR GOALS, THEY MAY HAVE DANCE PARTIES OR HAVE A MOVIE ON POPCORN DAY.
SO A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS FOR KIDS THAT CELEBRATE THEM.
WE ALSO HAVE SEVERAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS TO BE LEADERS IN OUR SCHOOL.
ONE THING THAT I'M VERY PROUD OF IS THE JUNIOR BETA CLUB.
THIS IS FOR STUDENTS IN FOURTH AND FIFTH GRADE THAT EXCEL ACADEMICALLY.
THEY DO LOTS OF PROJECTS AROUND OUR SCHOOL, SUCH AS CLEANING UP THE GROUNDS, MAKING SURE IT'S CLEAN.
AT CLEARWATER. WE LEARN AND GROW TOGETHER FROM THE SMALLEST STUDENTS TO OUR FIFTH GRADERS.
AND ONE THING THAT WE REALLY LIKE TO DO IS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PICTURES IS OUR BOOK BUDDIES.
COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS IS ALSO HELPS BUILD OUR SCHOOL CULTURE AND CLIMATE.
ONE THAT I WOULD LIKE TO HIGHLIGHT THAT'S UP THERE IS MIDLAND VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL.
THE PRINCIPAL AT MIDLAND VALLEY PROVIDES US WITH T SHIRTS AND CUPS AND ALL KINDS OF THINGS TO GO IN OUR OPOSSUM NOOK FOR OUR STUDENTS BECAUSE THEY ARE FUTURE MUSTANGS, WE HOPE. AND SO THEY'RE REALLY EXCITED TO GET MUSTANG APPAREL THAT THEY CAN WEAR.

THEY FOCUS ON FRIENDSHIPS, POSITIVE SELF IMAGE, HEALTHY DECISION MAKING AND GOAL SETTING.

THEY PROVIDE EVERY STUDENT THAT WALKS THROUGH THE DOOR BOOKBAGS AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES.
THEY DO NOT HAVE TO BUY ANYTHING.
THEY PROVIDE A FREE SANTA SHOP AND A FREE BOOK FAIR FOR ALL STUDENTS BECAUSE WE HAVE A HIGH POPULATION OR WE HAVE A HIGH A HIGH RATE OF FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH.
AND WE DO NOT WANT MONEY TO BE A BARRIER FOR ANY OF OUR STUDENTS.
SO WE WANT THEM TO HAVE ACCESS TO EVERYTHING AS WELL.
AND HOPE FOR SCHOOLS ALLOWS US TO DO THAT.
THEY'RE ALWAYS WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED TO BE PART OF THEIR CHILD'S EDUCATION.
