THERE WAS ONE DATE THAT HAD TO BE CORRECTED ON THE MINUTES AROUND CONTRACTUAL MATTERS RELATED TO HEAD START.

AS FAR AS THE END DATE, IS THERE A MOTION TO APPROVE THESE THREE SETS OF MINUTES? SO MOVED. MOVED BY MS. RHINEHART-JACKSON. IS THERE A SECOND.

EVERY YEAR, BAND STUDENTS AUDITION TO EARN A SPOT IN THE SOUTH CAROLINA BAND DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION OR SCBDA HONOR BANDS.

WE'LL BEGIN WITH THAT PRESENTATION TONIGHT.

AND SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS, IF YOU'RE ABLE AND WOULD LIKE TO JOIN MR. NUESSLE AND MR. LAURENCE IN FRONT OF THE DAIS, I THINK THAT THEY WOULD WELCOME YOU TO DO THAT AT THIS TIME.

WE ARE PART OF AN 11 COUNTY REGION, REGION TWO.

AND NORTH AUGUSTA HIGH SCHOOL HOST THE AUDITIONS FOR OUR REGION.

REGION TWO CONSISTS OF 11 COUNTIES WITH NORTH AUGUSTA HIGH SCHOOL HOSTING THE AUDITION EACH JANUARY.

THE TOP RANKED STUDENTS IN THE REGION ADVANCED TO THE STATE AUDITIONS HELD AT LEXINGTON HIGH SCHOOL.

THE AUDITION CONSISTS OF TIME MEMORIZED MAJOR SCALES, A MEMORIZED CHROMATIC SCALE OVER THE RANGE OF THE INSTRUMENT, A PREPARED PIECE OF MUSIC CALLED A SOLO THAT IS PRESCRIBED BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA BAND DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION TONE OR TECHNIQUE, AND TWO SIGHT READING EXAMPLES IN WHICH THE STUDENT HAS 30 SECONDS TO LOOK OVER THE TECHNICAL EXERCISE AND THEN PLAY AT SIGHT AND EXERCISE THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE.

THESE SOLO CHALLENGE STUDENTS TECHNICAL ABILITIES AND THEIR RANGE SPEED STYLE AND RHYTHMIC DEMANDS.

OFTENTIMES THEY ARE ASSIGNED TO STUDENTS TO WORK ON AS AN EXTRACURRICULAR ENDEAVOR.

THE FOLLOWING STUDENTS HAVE TAKEN ON THE PROCESS OF LEARNING THEIR SCALES AND SOLOS AND PRACTICING SIGHT READING, RECORDING THEIR PROGRESS, AND HAVE TAKEN THE RISK OF BEING JUDGED ON THEIR CURRENT MUSICAL CAPABILITIES.

WE ARE SO PROUD OF THESE STUDENTS FOR THEIR DEDICATION TO THEIR ART AND FOR PUTTING IN THE ADDITIONAL EFFORT TO AUDITION.

WE'RE THRILLED TO ANNOUNCE THAT THESE STUDENTS HAVE BEEN RECOGNIZED AS SOME OF THE TOP MUSICIANS IN OUR REGION AND AS SOME OF THE TOP MUSICIANS IN OUR STATE. I APOLOGIZE.

PRETTY INCREDIBLE.

THEY DID IT THIS YEAR BY DEFEATING WESTWOOD 42 TO 29 IN AN INTENSE COME FROM BEHIND WIN AT USC AIKEN'S CONVOCATION CENTER.

THEY ARE THE SOUTH CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE'S 4A STATE CHAMPIONS.

[APPLAUSE] THESE LADIES ARE MOTIVATED BY THE SUCCESSFUL HISTORY OF THE PROGRAM, AND THEY'RE A YOUNG TEAM.

AND WE'RE JUST GOING TO SIT BACK AND ENJOY HEARING SOME OF THE GREAT THINGS THAT ARE GOING ON AT BELVEDERE ELEMENTARY.

SO, MISS LONG.

SOMEHOW CONVEYED THE FEELINGS WITHIN OUR SCHOOL, THE FEELINGS OF COLLABORATION, OF COMMITMENT AND OF FAMILY.

BUT AS I STARTED DIGGING DEEPER, IT'S TRULY ABOUT THE JOURNEY THAT WE TAKE TO GET THOSE FEELINGS.

BEFORE YOU CAN PREPARE FOR ANY TRIP, YOU HAVE TO THINK ABOUT WHERE YOU'RE GOING.

AND FOR US, OUR COMPASS AT BELVEDERE IS WHAT'S IN THE BEST INTEREST OF STUDENTS MEETING THEIR ACADEMIC NEEDS, MEETING THEIR EMOTIONAL NEEDS, AND TRULY CONSIDERING WHAT IS IN THE BEST INTEREST FOR THE WHOLE CHILD.

PLANNING FOR A TRIP IS KEY FOR SUCCESS, WHETHER THAT'S PLANNING THE ACTIVITIES, WHAT TO PACK, THE MEALS AND MORE.

BUT TO BE SUCCESSFUL AT SCHOOL PLANNING, YOU HAVE TO KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR.

DURING THE END OF 2021, 2022, WE DETERMINED CLEAR GOALS FOR READING, ACHIEVEMENT, MATH ACHIEVEMENT, REDUCING REFERRALS, INCREASING FAMILY INVOLVEMENT AND SUPPORTING SCHOOL CULTURE. FROM THERE, WE CAME UP WITH STRATEGIES FOR EACH, AND THAT'S HOW WE PLANNED OUR CAMPING TRIP WE WENT ON FOR 2022, 2023.

ONE OF THE FIRST STRATEGIES WAS BRINGING IN THE HOUSE MODEL, JUST LIKE WE SET UP TENTS AT A CAMPSITE.

WE SET UP FOUR HOUSES WITHIN THE LARGER ORGANIZATION OF BELVEDERE.

IT'S STILL ONE CAMPSITE, BUT THERE ARE FOUR TENTS, MUCH LIKE CAMPING, WHERE EVERYBODY NEEDS THEIR HOME AWAY FROM HOME.

AT BELVEDERE, WE WANTED TO CREATE THAT HOME AWAY FROM HOME BY IMPLEMENTING THE HOUSE MODEL.

THE IDEA CAME FROM RON CLARK ACADEMY IN ATLANTA, GEORGIA.

AND OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS, WE'VE SPENT ALMOST HALF OF OUR FACULTY TO SEE THIS HOUSE MODEL IN ACTION AND TO HELP US PLAN THE IMPLEMENTATION.

STARTING LAST SPRING, IT WAS TIME TO BRING THE STAFF ON BOARD AND ENSURE THAT EVERYBODY KNEW WHAT HOUSE THEY WERE GOING TO BE IN.

BASED OFF OF A SURVEY GIVEN AND ENSURING THAT THERE WAS A GRADE LEVEL REPRESENTATIVE FOR EACH OF THE HOUSES.

WE DID A BIG HOUSE REVEAL IN MAY.

FROM THERE, WE BEGAN PLANNING HOW WE WERE GOING TO REVEAL OUR HOUSES TO OUR STUDENTS.

WE WANTED TO START WITH BUILDING THE EXCITEMENT AND CURIOSITY.

SO FROM THE MOMENT THEY ARRIVED FROM MEET THE TEACHER ALL THE WAY TO OUR BIG HOUSE REVEAL, WE WERE GOING OVER HOUSES, SYMBOLS, CHEERS AND ALL OF THE FUN THAT WOULD BE IN STORE. THEN IT WAS FINALLY TIME FOR THE BIG HOUSE REVEAL.

WITH THE HELP OF OUR PTO, WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OFF AN AMAZING REVEAL WITH BALLOONS FILLED WITH CONFETTI TO LET STUDENTS KNOW WHAT HOUSE THEY WOULD BE IN.

THEN WE FOLLOWED BY HAVING HOUSE PARTIES WHERE ALL OF OUR STUDENTS WENT TO FOUR SEPARATE LOCATIONS TO CELEBRATE THEIR NEW GROUP OF FRIENDS.

THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, THE MOMENTUM CONTINUED WITH WEEKLY MEETINGS BY GRADE LEVEL FOR HOUSE MEMBERS AND MONTHLY MEETINGS FOR ALL STUDENTS KINDERGARTEN THROUGH FIFTH WHO WERE IN THAT SAME HOUSE.

STUDENTS CELEBRATED EARNING HOUSE POINTS, AND THESE CARRIED A REALLY BIG DEAL BECAUSE TEACHERS COULD ONLY GIVE OUT FIVE POINTS PER DAY.

SO EARNING A HOUSE POINT CARRIED A LOT OF WEIGHT.

THE CRAZIEST THING IS WE'VE YET TO GIVE OUT A SINGLE REWARD FOR A WINNING HOUSE.

IT DIDN'T DAWN ON US UNTIL MAY THAT WE HAVE NOT EVEN PLANNED A CELEBRATION FOR THE HOUSE WITH THE MOST POINTS.

IT TRULY WAS THAT BEING A PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER THAN YOURSELF THAT HAS KEPT OUR STUDENTS AND OUR FAMILIES MOTIVATED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

ONCE WE HAD OUR FOUR TENTS UP AND GOING, IT WAS TIME FOR THE HIKING TRIP OF OUR YEAR.

FROM FIELD DAY CELEBRATIONS TO PARADES AND MORE.

THE YEAR WAS PACKED FULL OF ADVENTURES.

WE ALL KNOW THAT HIKING ISN'T ABOUT JUST TAKING THE EASIEST TRAIL, AND SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO MONITOR AND ADJUST BECAUSE THAT BRIDGE MAY BE WASHED OUT THAT WAS ON YOUR ORIGINAL PATH. THIS YEAR, ONE OF THE OBSTACLES WE FACED WAS THE CANCELING OF SPECIAL OLYMPICS DUE TO THE RAIN.

OUR TEAM JUMPED RIGHT IN.

AND NOT ONLY DID THEY CREATE A MAGICAL EXPERIENCE FOR OUR OWN ATHLETES, WE WERE ABLE TO INCLUDE SEVERAL NEIGHBORING ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS THAT WERE ABLE TO BRING THEIR STUDENTS OVER TO STILL PARTICIPATE.

WE DIDN'T LET A CHALLENGE STOP US.

WE PERSEVERED, PULLED TOGETHER FOR THE BEST INTEREST OF OUR STUDENTS BECAUSE, AFTER ALL, THEY ARE OUR COMPASS.

DURING THE HIKE AT SOME POINT YOU'LL WANT TO STOP AND EAT.

AND WHEN LOOKING AT THE SCHOOL REPORT CARD, THE FOCUS IS CERTAINLY ON THE GRADES THAT ARE ASSESSED ON STATE ASSESSMENTS.

BUT WE ALL KNOW THAT THE WORK TAKES PLACE FOR MASTERING THE LETTERS SOUNDS FOR FLUENCY IN KINDERGARTEN.

ALL THROUGH WRITING THAT CHALLENGING TDA IN FIFTH GRADE.

WE NEEDED TO ENSURE THAT STUDENTS WERE WELL BEHAVED AND PARTICIPATING IN CLASS, PREPARING 21ST CENTURY GRADUATES WITH INCORPORATING MANDARIN IMMERSION AND FOR STUDENTS TO FEEL A SENSE OF SUCCESS FROM DIFFERENT ACTIVITY CLASSES, FROM CREATING POTTERY TO PARTICIPATING IN MUSICALS.

IT'S LIKE PREPARING FOR A MEAL AT CAMP.

IT ISN'T JUST ABOUT WHO CATCHES THE FISH OR WHO STARTS THE FIRE.

IT TAKES EVERYONE'S SKILLS AND GIFTS TO CREATE SUCCESS.

AT SOME POINT IN THE HIKE, YOU GET TO THAT AMAZING VIEW AT THE END AND ALL OF THE HARD WORK FROM SETTING UP TENTS, HIKING, PREPARING A MEAL AND OVERCOMING CHALLENGES PAYS OFF WITH A WONDERFUL VIEW.

THIS YEAR WE'VE HAD THE VIEW OF OUR BOOKKEEPER WINNING BACK TO BACK EXEMPLARY AUDIT RATINGS THAT WE CELEBRATED WITH A SCHOOL PARADE.

OUR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT COUNSELOR RECEIVED THE HONORABLE MENTION FOR THE DICK AND TUNKY RILEY AWARD FOR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL EXCELLENCE.

WE NAMED AMY COLEMAN AS TEACHER OF THE YEAR AND ADA CARPENTER AS FIRST YEAR TEACHER OF THE YEAR, AND TINA DE SHEPHERD NOT ONLY AS OUR DISTRICT OR AS OUR SCHOOL GEM, BUT ALSO THE DISTRICT LEVEL GEM.

WE COLLECTED 1386 CANS FOR CHARITY AND OVER A THOUSAND COKE BOTTLE TOPS FOR DIFFERENT SERVICE PROJECTS.

WE WENT FROM NON APPROVED SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS THAT FIRST YEAR BACK AFTER COVID TO OVER 100 VOLUNTEERS THAT HAVE NOT ONLY MENTORED OUR STUDENTS BUT SUPPORTED THEM THROUGH TUTORING. AS A DIRECT RESULT OF THEIR ROLE IN OUR BUILDING WE'VE CUT IN HALF OUR HIGH RISK STUDENTS FOR NONSENSE WORDS, SIGHT WORDS AND FLUENCY READING FROM WINTER TO THE PRESENT IN KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADE.

THE ACHIEVEMENT CELEBRATIONS CONTINUE.

WE HAD A 17% INCREASE IN STUDENTS MEETING THEIR MATH MAP GOALS FROM LAST SCHOOL YEAR IN THIRD GRADE AND AN OVERALL 10% OR MORE INCREASE IN STUDENTS MEETING THEIR GOALS FROM LAST YEAR TO THE PRESENT.

FURTHER, THERE'S BEEN A 10% INCREASE IN OUR STUDENTS PROJECTED TO BE MEETS OR EXCEEDS ON SC READY SINCE LAST SPRING.

IN READING, ON AVERAGE, THERE'S BEEN A 7% INCREASE IN EACH GRADE LEVEL FOR STUDENTS MEETING THEIR MAP GOALS AND AN INCREASE OF 9% OF OUR STUDENTS FOR PROJECTED MEETS AND EXCEEDS BASED ON SPRING SCORES.

THE CAMPFIRE AT THE END IS OFTEN THAT CAPSTONE MOMENT OF THE CAMPING TRIP.

WHEN I THINK ABOUT THE WORK, I CERTAINLY CELEBRATE THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND REMEMBER THE FUN MOMENTS.

BUT IT'S TRULY THE TIMES THAT A GROUP OF STAFF MEMBERS ARE SITTING AROUND AND REMINISCING THE GOOD PARTS, THE STRUGGLES, THE MOMENTS THAT WE'VE OVERCOME OF THE DAY.

I FEEL LIKE THIS CAN HAPPEN AT BELVEDERE BECAUSE WE HAVE A HIGH LEVEL OF TRUST ON OUR TEAM AND THE STAFF FEEL EMPOWERED BY THE AUTONOMY TO DO WHAT IS BEST FOR OUR STUDENTS.

WHEN TELLING THE STAFF THAT I WAS PRESENTING TONIGHT, I ASKED FOR SOME FEEDBACK AND I'D RATHER CLOSE IN THEIR WORDS INSTEAD OF MINE.

THE PEOPLE WHO WORK AND VOLUNTEER AT BELVEDERE ARE VERY STUDENT CENTERED, AND WHEN THERE IS WHAT MANY WOULD CONSIDER A PROBLEM, IT IS VIEWED AS A CHALLENGE.

AND OUR LEADERSHIP MODELS WORKING AS A TEAM TO MEET CHALLENGES TOGETHER.

I ALSO THINK OUR PRINCIPAL AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL HAVE CREATED AN ATMOSPHERE THAT IS POSITIVE AND SOLUTION ORIENTED.

WE'RE WILLING TO TRY NEW APPROACHES THAT HELP OUR STUDENTS FEEL AT HOME, AT BES, AND TO HELP THEM LEARN AND GROW.

I'VE WORKED UNDER SEVERAL ADMINISTRATIONS OVER THE YEARS, AND THIS IS BY FAR THE MOST POSITIVE AS FAR AS WORKING AS A TEAM AND THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX TO CREATE GREAT LEARNING AND EXPERIENCES FOR OUR STUDENTS AND MODELING AND MAINTAINING A POSITIVE ATMOSPHERE.

I CHOSE TO TEACH AT BELVEDERE BECAUSE I KNOW I'M TRULY APPRECIATED FROM THE FIRST DAY I ARRIVED.

THE STAFF HAS BEEN NOTHING LESS THAN WELCOMING AND REALLY WANT TO GET TO KNOW YOU AS A PERSON.

BUT I THINK THE MOST REWARDING MOMENT WAS DURING THE FEBRUARY WHEN WE ALL TOOK THE TIME TO PRAISE EACH OTHER AND ACKNOWLEDGE OUR DIFFERENT STRENGTHS.

I WAS STRUGGLING THAT WEEK EMOTIONALLY AND TO HEAR HOW OTHERS IN THE BUILDING NOTICED HOW HARD I WAS WORKING WAS SOMETHING I REALLY NEEDED TO HEAR.

TEACHING IS GOD'S CALLING FOR MY LIFE AND I TRULY LOVE IT.

EVEN IN THE ROUGH MOMENTS.

MY LIFE IS FULL OF REWARDING MOMENTS AT BELVEDERE ELEMENTARY TOO MANY TO PICK JUST ONE.

I LOVE WHEN I HAVE FORMER STUDENTS COME BACK TO MY CLASSROOM TO BE A PART OF THE TEACHER CADET PROGRAM.

AND I LOVE I HAVE PARENTS SAY THAT THEY'RE EXCITED THAT THEIR STUDENT IS GOING TO BE IN MY CLASS.

I LOVE WHEN FORMER STUDENTS STOP BY AND SAY HELLO AND GIVE ME A HUG.

I LOVE IT WHEN MY STUDENTS ARE SO PROUD OF THE MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS THEY HAVE ACHIEVED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

IT WOULD TAKE PAGES TO SAY HOW REWARDING MY JOB IS AT BES.

I HAVE THE BEST JOB IN THE WORLD AND I GET TO DO WHAT I TRULY LOVE AT THE BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD, BELVEDERE ELEMENTARY.

WE'RE GOING TO WE SEPARATED THE CODE 16 INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE AND 210 PROFANITY ON PAGE 15 FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS.

FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL WE MADE A CORRECTION IN WHICH THE CODE SEVEN FOR DISHONESTY WAS REMOVED AS CHEATING AS A DESCRIPTION BECAUSE OF CHEATING WAS ALREADY BEING ADDRESSED IN LEVEL TWO.

AND THAT'S FOR THE MIDDLE LEVEL THAT'S FOUND ON PAGE 15 OF THAT DOCUMENT.

AND FOR HIGH SCHOOLS, WE ADDED CONSEQUENCES FOR THE FIRST INFRACTIONS FOR CONFRONTATION, VERBAL ALTERCATION TO GIVE ADMINISTRATORS SOME AUTONOMY DEPENDING ON THE SEVERITY OF THE INCIDENT, CONFRONTATION, VERBAL ALTERCATION 407, WHICH IS THE CODE IS FOUND ON PAGE 17 IN THE HIGH SCHOOL CODE OF CONDUCT.

AGAIN, THE FOLLOWING CHANGES WAS RECOMMENDED FOR ALL LEVELS.

ALL THE HVAC WORK AS WELL.

INSIDE IS REALLY COMING ALONG NICELY.

THE CURTAIN WALL, GLAZING AND METAL WORK, METAL WALL PANELS ARE AT 95%.

ELECTRICAL PLUMBING AND MECHANICAL AND OVERHEAD AND IN-WALL ROOFING IS CURRENTLY IN PROCESS AND OUR OSF ABOVE THE CEILING INSPECTION WAS PASSED IN APRIL, ON APRIL 25TH. EXCUSE ME.

THE $16 MILLION DOLLAR PROJECT IS WITHIN BUDGET AND CONTINUING ON SCHEDULE.

WE ARE DUE FOR COMPLETION IN THE FALL OF THIS YEAR, MAYBE MID TO LATE SEPTEMBER.

OVER AT HAMMOND HILL, THE CAFETERIA OR PHASE TWO CONSTRUCTION WE'VE STARTED.

WE'VE BEGUN THE INSTALLATION OF THE FLOORING AND THE RUBBER BASE HAS BEEN COMPLETED IN ALL AREAS.

THE INTERIOR BLACKOUT WINDOW SHADES HAVE BEEN INSTALLED IN THE CAFETERIA.

MOTORIZED VIDEO PROJECTION SCREEN HAS ALSO BEEN INSTALLED.

THE CAFETERIA TABLES ARE ON SITE AT THIS TIME AS WELL.

ON THE OUTSIDE, AGAIN, WE'RE GOING WITH PARKING.

PARKING AND PAVING THE DRIVEWAY AREA IN PHASE TWO HAS BEEN COMPLETED WITH THE CURBING UP TO NOW, THE SIDEWALK IN BACK OF THE KITCHEN HAS ALSO BEEN POURED.

LOCKERS, WASHERS AND DRYERS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED IN THE KITCHEN AND LAUNDRY AREA.

NOW, THIS PROJECT WAS SCHEDULED FOR COMPLETION IN LATE MARCH.

SO WE'RE RUNNING ABOUT FOUR WEEKS BEHIND ON THIS.

AND THIS IS DUE TO THE WEATHER THAT WE'VE BEEN HAVING.

OVER AT THE HIGHLAND SPRINGS.

IT'S A VERY APPROPRIATE PICTURE.

THERE YOU CAN SEE A LITTLE BIT OF THE MUD THERE.

CONSTRUCTION IS CONTINUING AT A STEADY PACE WITH OUR TRADES WORKING.

FIRE PROTECTION, PLUMBING, MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL TRIM ARE CONTINUING ON THE FIRST FLOOR, WHILE THE OVERHEAD AND IN-WALL END CONTINUES ON THE SECOND FLOOR.

FLOORING AND CASEWORK INSTALLATION HAS STARTED.

AND LASTLY, WAGENER-SALLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

WE'RE DOING A LOT OF GRADING WORK.

THE FOUNDATION BLOCK CONTINUES AS FOOTINGS ARE BEING POURED.

FOOTINGS, STEEL INSULATION CONTINUES AS WELL AS THE FOOTING POURS AND THE SLAB PREP ALSO CONTINUES.
