YESTERDAY, I WAS RUNNING A SECOND ROUTE AND WHEN I GOT THERE, THREE ELEMENTARY TEACHERS WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR 21 ELEMENTARY STUDENTS. ONE MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL WAS WATCHING SEVEN MIDDLE SCHOOLERS. A HIGH SCHOOL VICE PRINCIPAL WAS WATCHING SEVEN HIGH SCHOOLERS. ONE BUS DRIVER COMES, FIVE ADMINISTRATORS. I'M SURE THERE'S SOME LOGISTICS THERE, BUT FIVE ADMINISTRATORS WERE HANDLING 34 STUDENTS. THEN THEY'RE TURNED OVER TO ONE BUS DRIVER WHO HAS THE JOB OF DRIVING THE BUS, BEING SAFE, HANDLING THESE STUDENTS THAT FIVE ADMINISTRATORS WERE HANDLING. AND THEN I'M WORKING WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT, HOPEFULLY THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX INITIATIVES, SUCH THINGS LIKE 180 DAY EMPLOYEES FOR SROS. SO JUST THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX AND WORKING TOGETHER TO TRY TO FILL THOSE POSITIONS AND HOPING THAT MY BACKGROUND AND EXISTING RELATIONSHIP WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES THAT SERVE OUR SCHOOLS WILL STRENGTHEN THE COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS MOVING FORWARD. WE CURRENTLY HAVE LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AT MAJOR ATHLETIC EVENTS, USUALLY 4 TO 6 OFFICERS AT A FOOTBALL GAME ON A FRIDAY NIGHT, SOMETIMES MORE, DEPENDING ON THE EXPECTED ATTENDANCE. PRIVATE SECURITY IS IN PLACE TO ASSIST. THAT IS UNARMED. PRIVATE SECURITY IS IN PLACE TO HELP WITH WANDING BEING EXTRA SET OF EYES AT THE ENTRANCES TO THE ATHLETIC EVENT AND TO HELP ENFORCE THE CLEAR BAG RULES THAT WAS RECENTLY IMPLEMENTED. WE DO HAVE ONE AGENCY THAT WILL BE APPLYING FOR AN SRO FOR ONE OF OUR SCHOOLS FOR THE CURRENT OPENING. THAT WOULD BE IF, IF APPROVED, OCTOBER THROUGH AUGUST OR THROUGH JUNE. AND THEN I HAVE SEVERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES THAT ARE IN HOPES IF STAFFING IS CONTINUES AS IT IS, THAT THEY WILL BE ABLE TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SROS AS WE APPROACH THE 23-24 SCHOOL YEAR. SO HOPEFULLY WE'LL BE ABLE TO ADD TO THOSE. INSIDE YOUR FOLDER IS A FLIER ON CRASE. THIS IS A TRAINING THAT HAS BEEN RECOMMENDED AND OFFERED TO THE SCHOOLS. ON DOWN TO THE YES PHASE TWO CONSTRUCTION, GRADING AND LOWERING OF THE HILLSIDE BEHIND THE NEW CAFETERIA AND KITCHEN IS CONTINUING. ALL THE UNDERGROUND UTILITIES HAVE BEEN INSTALLED AT THE KITCHEN AND A NEW FLOOR SLAB HAS ALSO BEEN POURED. AS YOU CAN SEE, THE SEMI WALLS ARE BEING LAID AT THE KITCHEN AND THE HIGH WALLS ARE IN THE CAFETERIA. THE WORK ON THIS PROJECT IS APPROXIMATELY 75% COMPLETE. WE ARE ON SCHEDULE TO COMPLETE TO BE COMPLETED IN MARCH OF 23. AND THIS PHASE OF THIS PROJECT HAS A TOTAL OF $15 MILLION BUDGET. SO WE'RE ADDING THE CAFETERIA AND THE TECHNOLOGY LAB THERE. AND HIGHLAND SPRINGS IS STARTING TO REALLY TAKE SHAPE. IF YOU LOOK NOW, WE HAVE A STRUCTURE AND A SKYLINE. IT'S ACTUALLY QUITE BEAUTIFUL OUT THERE. WE'RE GOING, EXCUSE ME, MASONRY. [INAUDIBLE] WALLS AND VENEER, DRYWALL, FRAMING AND ROOFING ARE ALL CONTINUING WHILE PLUMBING, FIRE PROTECTION, MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL ROOF END IS ALSO BEING INSTALLED. THE SITE WORK, WHICH IS QUITE EXTENSIVE, IS CONTINUING ON AS WELL AS WE'RE GRADING. AND AS YOU CAN SEE, THERE IS A ROUGH PAVING OF BUCHANAN PARKWAY.
